Following weeks of student protests and mounting campus outrage over sexual violence, President Michael Kotlikoff announced the immediate suspension of all IFC fraternity parties and social events for the remainder of the 2026-2027 academic year.
The move comes after students demanded immediate accountability and protection from Day Hall regarding a 2024 assault. Any fraternity caught hosting an event faces an immediate emergency suspension while the university evaluates whether Greek life can safely continue on campus.
Beyond the social freeze, the university is bringing in New York State Police investigators to handle criminal inquiries independently, appointing a dedicated case manager for reporting survivors, and adding advocate staff to the SHARE office.
While an independent review led by former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates examines campus policies, relentless student pressure made it clear that the Cornell community was not willing to wait around for findings before seeing real action.
