A fraternity brother later asked, “Shop still open?” to which another member responded, “Yea.” The surfaced exchange comes as Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten reopens the criminal case for a grand jury review. The victim’s attorney argues investigators previously failed to fully examine digital evidence like the group chat, while defense counsel maintains their clients’ innocence and points to conflicting statements. Cornell stated that it supports the district attorney’s reopened investigation, noting that the university’s prior Title IX proceedings previously resulted in sanctions.
