The family of Cornell graduate Julia Hyman has announced plans to sue New York City for $65 million following her tragic death in a Midtown mass shooting last year. New court documents allege that NYPD detective Didarul Islam, working a paid security detail in the building lobby, failed to respond to the heavily armed gunman as he crossed the outdoor plaza. Security footage reportedly shows the officer standing by a window with a clear line of sight before the shooter entered the building. Hyman was 27 years old and working as a real estate associate in the high-rise when the attack occurred. Her family’s legal team stated they are investigating all potential factors to ensure full accountability for her tragic death.
