Cornell has issued a one-year ban against recent graduate Aiden Vallecillo following a confrontation with President Michael Kotlikoff during a campus protest. Vallecillo was designated persona non grata just days after his graduation ceremony, an action he says was timed to avoid public backlash.
The incident occurred in April when a group of students surrounded the President’s vehicle to question speech policies. While footage shows the car backing directly into the group, the university’s Board of Trustees determined the students created a hazardous condition. Despite the administration previously signaling they would not pursue discipline, campus police served the ban at Vallecillo’s off-campus home.
The decision has sparked debate among students regarding the administration’s treatment of protesters. While the university claims the ban is a necessary safety measure, the move effectively prevents the new alumnus from returning to campus for a full year.
